Skills USA local winners
Several area students were winners in the Skills USA 2017 championships on June 23 in Louisville, Ky. The categories, placement, names and schools are: Career Pathways Showcase: Human Services- first place -Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School: Isaac Medina, Freedom; Anthony Tomeski - Sudziarski, Saucon Valley and Omar Torres, Liberty; Crime Scene Investigation - third place- BAVTS: Joshua Crespo, Freedom; Amber Hunsicker, Liberty; Timothy Surovi, Saucon Valley; Building Maintenance - fourth place- Lehigh Career and Technical Institute: Adam Boyd, Salisbury; and CNC Milling Specialist -11th place- LCTI: Ryan Kuntz, Lehigh Valley Christian HS.
Charter Arts: Summer courses and workshops
There will be four different one week (at a cost) courses from 9:30 a.m. to noon daily from July 17 through 21 at Charter Arts, 321 E. Third St.
Christopher Morris will present Shakespearean acting, a beginner to intermediate class open to teens entering eighth to12th grade. David Macbeth will conduct an opera and classical music for the intermediate to advanced vocal student with a developed voice, (not for beginners) entering ninth through-12th grade.
The Fun with Art- Painting & Drawing 101 workshop for the novice young artist who is interested in learning the basics of painting and drawing. Acting Camp 101 explores the basics of acting, including improvisation and character development with instructor Chris Ryland. Both courses are open to children entering fifth to seventh grades.

BASD: Vaccination requirements explained
The Bethlehem Area School District health services has announced vaccination requirements for all grades.
On the first day of school, unless the student had a medical or religious / philosophical exemption, the attendee must have had at least one dose of the following vaccinations or risk exclusion: four doses of polio and of tetanus, diptheria and acellular pertussis; three doses of hepatitis B; and two doses of varicella (chicken pox) or evidence of immunity and of measles, mumps and rubella immunizations.
There are additional requirements for students entering seventh and twelfth grades. They will continue to be required each succeeding school year. The complete requirements lists may be found by visiting www.beth.k12.pa.us/Departments/Health/req_immunizations.lasso.
