ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL

The July 12 meeting of the Alburtis Borough Council began with a concern from a borough resident.

The resident in question was concerned about the recurring issue of roosters causing a disturbance in the borough. There was a discussion about an ordinance to deal with animal noise issues. The borough mentioned the police could be sent to deal with rooster issues.

Council then moved on to Ordinance 534, which dealt with rental properties. The ordinance was a revised version plan for rental properties. It was explained the ordinance is regarding residents who are living in or moving in and out of the borough. The ordinance was approved unanimously.

Also discussed was a grant of $1,967 received from the Chamber Main Street Foundation. The grant money would be used for flags and banners. The grant amount would also be met by local businesses in the borough.

Another topic discussed was an update involving Preservation PA. The organization will be conducting a walk-through of Alburtis Borough for a historic district review. The review will take place July 24.

The Business Revitalization Project’s yard sale was also discussed during the meeting. The BBRP is now being funded by the borough. The event, which is a borough-wide yard sale, will take place sometime in September or October.

The Southwest Lehigh County Comprehensive Plan public meeting was discussed. The comprehensive plan involved Alburtis, Emmaus, Lower Macungie, Lower Milford, Macungie and Upper Milford coming together to collaborate on a zoning plan as well as solutions to traffic issues. There was discussion about when the next meeting would be held.

Regarding a night out fundraising event for the police department, council talked about splitting the bill with each side paying $500.

The next council meeting will be 7 p.m. July 26. Council meets the second and last Wednesdays of the month in Alburtis Borough Hall.
