No performances planned by local concert association

The Allentown Community Concert Association will not be presenting concerts at Parkland High School in the near future.

According to the IRS website, the organization has lost its nonprofit tax exempt status and had its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status automatically revoked on Sept. 15, 2016.

The notice of automatic revocation posted Dec. 12, 2016, on the IRS website states the concert association’s federal tax exemption was revoked for not filing out a Form 990-series return for three consecutive years.

Form 990 is a 12-page document requiring several other tax forms and documentation.

According to nonprofitfacts.com, the organization’s net assets or fund balances were $83,762 in 2013; $92,178 in 2012; and $116,592 in 2011.

Nicole Mehta McGalla, director of Community Relations and Development for the Parkland School District commented July 14 via email to The Press about the organization no longer presenting concerts at the high school.

“So far, they have not scheduled anything,” McGalla wrote.

Allentown Band Conductor Ron Demkee, who has played at Allentown Community Concert Association concerts for many years, commented on the situation.

The Allentown Band, Demkee said, was to play in a concert presented by the Allentown Community Concert Association in September.

“I’m really disappointed,” Demkee said. “We were looking forward to playing, so we’re just disappointed.”

The Press left a telephone message for Allentown Community Concert Association Executive Director Georgia Chomicky, of South Whitehall Township, but the call was not return by press time.

Chomicky’s husband, Eugene, died on Oct. 18, 2013.

Past president of the Allentown Community Concert Association, he served 30 years on its board.

He also was an adjunct professor at Penn State where he taught labor relations and management.
