Sacred Heart Lab gets accreditation

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to Sacred Heart Hospital Laboratory based on results of an on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.

The facility’s director, Diane Guerrero, MT, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. Sacred Heart Hospital Laboratory is one of more than 7,700 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“The laboratory’s success is due to the accomplished staff at Sacred Heart. I am very proud of my team and I am thrilled to once again receive the CAP accreditation,” said Laboratory Medical Director James Chidias, MD.

John Nespoli, Sacred Heart President & CEO said, “The Sacred Heart Laboratory team does an excellent job of meeting the high standards and quality control procedures set by CAP as well as providing a very important service to our patients. We are very fortunate to have such a safe, reliable and qualified staff in our Lab.”

The United States federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years.

CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
