MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The July 5 meeting of Macungie Borough Council began with a comment from borough resident Dennis Fritz. Fritz questioned if anything came of a noise ordinance that was in its early stages of planning a few years earlier. He was concerned about a possible noise violation from the Pub on Main. Fritz felt the issue could be resolved if there were a written list of rules or regulations so that new pub owners would not have confusion about the rules.

Macungie Mayor Gary Cordner discussed the upcoming car show season. He had been getting complaints from residents regarding cars not stopping for pedestrians. The mayor urged drivers coming into the borough to be careful and respectful of pedestrians in the community.

Council also had a discussion regarding a parking request from Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., and reviewed on-street parking on West End Trail. Resident Dave Fatzinger had concerns about pickup trucks parking on West End Trail.

Members of council said if parking rules are to be changed it is vital to get everyone’s input. They also explained they would not get rid of the parking congestion, but merely move it elsewhere in the borough.

There was also a conversation about approving payments for the Americans with Disabilities Act ramp project to Barker and Barker Paving totaling $63,600.Council needs approval from Lehigh County to pay the bill as the money would come from a county grant. Council approved the bill contingent on the approval of county payroll.

Another item on the borough’s agenda was a request from Macungie Police Officer Kyle Bernhard to carry his unused vacation from 2016. Bernhard wanted to carry three days of his 2016 vacation so he can take a week vacation. The request was approved unanimously contingent on the vacation being used by Nov. 30.

Council discussed putting in walking trails in the borough. The idea of connecting the trails to walking trails in the neighboring boroughs was also discussed.

The next Macungie Borough Council meeting will be July 17. Meetings are held 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month in Macungie Borough Hall.
