Firefighters featured at Schnecksville Fair

Lehigh Valley residents were able to interact with local firefighters June 20-24 at the Schnecksville Community Fair.

What started as a carnival 34 years ago has evolved into a Department of Agriculture sanctioned experience. Guests received a firsthand view of many agricultural materials, methods and products.

Livestock exhibits were also a big attraction.

North Whitehall’s four fire companies were featured on a rotating basis throughout the event.

Following opening ceremonies June 19, Schnecksville Fire Company hosted the event.

Volunteer firefighters from Tri-Clover hosted the next evening.

That Thursday, firefighters from Neffs Volunteer Fire Department joined and Laurys Station firefighters were in place June 23.

Kids from 2 to 11 years of age enjoyed the “Wanna be a firefighter” obstacle course.

The youngsters were guided by firefighters through a series of challenges culminating with using an actual fire hose on a simulated house fire.

The keepsake fire helmet was a hit with both the young and young at heart.

Teens and adults were encouraged to view the fire apparatus and equipment. Firefighters were on hand to answer questions.
