Cub Pack 94 held its annual Pinewood Derby race in the spring. Twenty-two Scouts participated and, with the help of an adult or by themselves, fashioned their official BSA Pinewood Derby kit into a super cool Pinewood Derby race car.
North Valley District rules must be adhered to, including a maximum weight of five ounces and no lubrication can be used except for graphite for the axles and wheels.
Each Scout races four heats, and the fastest average time wins. Speed is the key; sportsmanship is a must; and the competition is exciting!
This year, the difference between first place and 22nd place was a mere .2 seconds! Trophies are awarded for the top five finishers and best in show; however, every participant from sixth to 22nd place was recognized for their efforts with a participant trophy. The top five finishers moved on to compete at the district level in the North Valley District race.
The sixth-place finish is the alternate entry for districts. The results are first place, Ashton Grebs, average time, 2.65 seconds; second place, Mason Rivera, average time, 2.659 seconds; third place, Ethan Armbuster, average time, 2.663 seconds; fourth place, Joseph Gearhart, average time, 2.665 seconds; fifth place, Nathan Scholl, average time, 2.694 seconds; and sixth place and alternate, Dominick Matinelli, average time, 2.696 seconds. Best in show was Jonathan Rizzo.
