The roof covering the main social hall of the Schnecksville Fire Company collapsed 2:05 p.m. July 2.
Schnecksville Fire Chief Ron Stahley, who spoke with The Press July 3, said the building was constructed in 1987.
“It would be premature at this point to speculate on the cause,” Stahley said. “We will bring in whatever professionals we have to.”
Stahley said there were a couple of volunteers in the kitchen but they were not affected and were able to leave the building safely.
“All apparatus and fire equipment were not affected,” he added. “All the trucks were back in the building as of Sunday night.
“We had a structural engineer check the building yesterday and he determined that part of the building was safe.”
Stahley said the fire company even responded to two calls Sunday after the collapse and that emergency services to the community will not be affected.
“We are thankful nobody was in there (social hall) and we are devastated,” Stahley said. “As we go forward, we will speak to all parties who have booked the facility and figure something out.
“We will be able to move a lot of events to the pavilion.”
