Even though a medical marijuana dispensary is apparently not immediately in the offing for a location in Salisbury Township, consideration of legislation to regulate such a facility is expected to continue by the Salisbury Township Planning Commission.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health awarded two permits for dispensaries in the Lehigh Valley.

In Lehigh County, a permit was issued to Mission Pennsylvania II, LLC, for a dispensary at Emmaus Avenue Plaza, 2733 W. Emmaus Ave., Allentown. The site is in the vicinity of Interstate 78 and South 31st Street.

In Northampton County, a permit was issued to GuadCo, LLC, Brooklyn, N.Y., for a location at 1309 Stefko Blvd., Bethlehem.

The Salisbury Township Planning Commission meets 7:30 p.m. July 11 in the meeting room of the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.

According to the planning commission July 11 agenda on the township website, “The medical marijuana ordinance has been submitted to the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission for their review and comment.”

The Salisbury Township Planning Commission voted unanimously 7-0 at its June 13 meeting to submit the amendment concerning medical marijuana facilities to the regional planners for review.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health granted 27 dispensary permits June 29 for medical marijuana dispensaries. According to the DOH website, permittees have six months to become operational before they can begin dispensing medical marijuana.

“This has been a highly-competitive process and the department received hundreds of quality applications,” John Collins, director of the office of medical marijuana, said.

“Once this program is fully operational, patients with serious medical conditions will have locations throughout the commonwealth where they can purchase medication to help in their treatment. We remain on track to provide medication to patients in 2018.”

There will be 52 dispensaries in the commonwealth. Each of the 27 dispensary permit holders is eligible to open three locations. Some dispensary permit holders have opted not to open all eligible locations at this time. A list of locations is available on the Department of Health website: health.pa.gov.

The DOH could grant additional permits.

Lehigh and Northampton counties are in Region 2, the northeast region, which includes Carbon, Monroe, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Wayne, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties.

Review the preliminary plan of the proposed minor subdivision and lot consolidation plan between 2860 Lindberg Ave. and Salisbury Township.

Review the proposed preliminary-final subdivision and lot line adjustment for 2242 Church Road.

Review the proposed preliminary-final subdivision and lot consolidation plan for 3120 Douglas Road and 2736 West Rock Road.

Review the first chapters of the township Subdivision And Land Development Ordinance, which is under consideration for updating by planners.
