LVIA to receive $6 million in state aviation grants

Lehigh Valley International Airport was approved for more than $6 million in state aviation grants June 6, according to state Rep. Dan McNeill.

“I would like to thank Governor Tom Wolf for releasing these funds that will allow the airport to complete two phases of hangar development,” said McNeill, D-Lehigh.

The grants were awarded through the Aviation Transportation Assistance Program that is funded as part of the state’s Capital Budget. The General Assembly compiles an overall list of projects to be placed in the capital budget, but the funding must be released by the governor.

“Getting on the list is the first step in the process and these projects have been there for quite some time, so it’s nice to finally see them get over the finish line with approval by the governor’s office,” McNeill said.

The state grants, which are paid through bonds, are matched with local funds. Public-use airports in Pennsylvania are eligible for the grant program.
