MS Society recognizes Good Shepherd

The National MS Society recently designated Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network as a Partner in MS Care. The designation is given as recognition of the high quality services and specialized support that Good Shepherd provides to individuals with MS.

“A diagnosis of MS is life changing,” said Jerry Werner, Good Shepherd MS Wellness Program manager. “It is important for patients to realize that they are not alone and that specialized care and support is available to them throughout their journey. While rehabilitation cannot reverse the neurological damage caused by MS, the proper therapy can help address some of these challenges and maximize quality of life.”

Good Shepherd employs several MS Certified Specialists (MSCS). This voluntary certification reflects knowledge in the specialization of MS care. This certification provides formal recognition that is necessary to provide optimal care to those individuals and families living with multiple sclerosis.

MS occurs when the body’s immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerves, making it difficult for them to communicate with the brain.

Good Shepherd provides a full continuum of care to individuals who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Therapy is provided on an inpatient, outpatient and in-home basis, depending on each patient’s needs. Rehabilitation also may include psychology services, wellness services (including therapeutic art, gentle yoga, seated exercise classes, etc.), support groups for patients and caregivers and long-term residential care.

In addition to providing comprehensive patient care, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation has been active within the MS community by supporting MS Society efforts, including the “City to Shore Bike Ride” and “MS Walk” and by offering community education.
