Labor of love! According to Heidelberg Church Soup Kitchen Coordinator Linda Hausamann, 173 hot meals were served recently to the hungry and homeless at the Allentown Soup Kitchen.

The meal included sausage, potatoes, garden salad, apple sauce, rolls, desserts and ice cream, which was a special treat donated by Heidelberg Church.

Special thanks to the volunteers of the day: Eleanor and Ron Klevenhagen, Shirley Boger, Barbara Mathias, Robin Koch and Linda Hausamann.

At this time, summer clothing is needed, as well as dish cloths and towels and pot holders.

If you would like to donate any of these items or would like to find out more about helping at the soup kitchen, contact Linda at 610-767-5281.

Some Heidelberg humor! Since the Fourth of July weekend was coming up, a nursery school teacher took the opportunity to tell her class about patriotism.

“We live in a great country,” she said. “One of the things we should be happy about is that, in this country, we are all free.”

One little boy came walking up to her from the back of the room. He stood with his hands on his hips and said: “I’m not free. I’m four.”

Happy Fourth of July to all!
