Lehigh’s Reichenbach wraps up stellar jumping career
Several Salisbury High School graduates competed on college athletic teams this past spring season.
Saint Joe’s pitcher Justin Aungst spent a majority of last baseball season coming out of the bullpen. This past spring he started eight out of the 15 games he appeared in, posting a 2-3 record with a 5.22 ERA. In his 50 innings he allowed 54 hits and 29 earned runs while striking out 38 batters and walking 18.
A duo of former Falcons had a solid season on the diamond for the Moravian baseball team. Evan Kulig, a sophomore, was one of the Greyhounds’ top hitters. He finished 2017 with a .336 battering average, the fourth-highest on the team, while knocking in a team high 27 RBIs to go with 23 runs scored. Kulig also appeared in nine games on the mound for the Greyhound and recorded a 3.18 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched. Chase Rogers hit .200 in 12 games for Moravian and knocked in four runs.
During the 26-win season for the DeSales baseball team, senior relief pitcher Tyler Cooperman had plenty of shining moments. Cooperman appeared in 19 games, pitching 27 innings over that stretch. He finished the season 2-1 on the mound with four saves, a 5.33 ERA and 19 strikeouts.
Senior Dan Reichenbach capped a stellar career for the Lehigh University track and field team. He placed seventh in the triple jump at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a mark of 14.26 meters. He did even better in the long jump, earning a fifth-place finish.
Meghan Williams played a bigger role in 2017 for the Penn State University softball team. She played in 11 games (five starts) and recorded five RBIs on the season.
Freshman infielder/pitcher Chad Cooperman got a taste of college baseball in his first season at Bloomsburg this past spring. He appeared in 10 games as a relief pitcher and finished with a 6.55 ERA and 32 strikeouts. He allowed just six walks in that same span of 33 innings. In the batter’s box, Cooperman hit .273 with 21 runs and 16 RBIs.
Holly Szita, a sophomore on the West Chester track and field team, holds the second-highest high jump mark in school history at 5-6.5. During this season’s PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she tied for sixth place in the high jump.
