Salisbury Township police recently completed a wave of traffic enforcement stops in an effort to encourage drivers living or passing through the community to drive in a safe manner.

The Buckle Up Pennsylvania enforcement detail netted a variety of motor vehicle code violations, Salisbury Police Department Cpl. Bryan Losagio, the police department’s traffic safety officer, said.

“We performed 60 vehicle stops between May 15 and June 4,” Losagio said. “We issued 77 vehicle code violations for such offenses as speeding, unregistered vehicles, no insurance and suspended licenses. Five people were cited for not wearing a seat belt. That’s one in every 12 vehicles stopped resulting in a seat belt violation.

“We do not stop drivers randomly,” Losagio said. “We stop vehicles for speeding or vehicle registration violations stemming from our mobile plate reading equipment or other observable violations. The seat belt violations mostly are an add-on from another violation. We take seat belt violations seriously because we know seat belts save lives.”

“Our department plans on participating in aggressive driving enforcement details during the summer months in various areas of the township, and motorists are encouraged to drive safely, and be especially aware of children out of school and enjoying outdoor play,” Losagio said.
