“Country Scenes … Blue Ribbon Dreams” is the theme for the 34th annual Schnecksville Community Fair, June 20 - 24, Schnecksville Fire Company, Route 309, near Lehigh Carbon Community College, North Whitehall Township.

“There will be plenty of amusement rides, live entertainment, food and exhibits, so be sure to mark your calendars,” says Fair president Emory Minnich.

The Fair opens at 5 p.m. June 20 - 23 and at 3 p.m. June 24

Judging day is June 19 when the Fair is not open to the public.

Admission to the Fair includes rides and entertainment. Senior citizen admission is available for those 62 and older.

Here are highlights of the 2017 Schnecksville Fair.

Agriculture:Ag plays a big part in the Fair. More than 175 species of animals will be present for judging. At 6 p.m. each day, a different species is shown in the 4-H pavilion. Come and observe youths learning responsibility and caring as they feed, train and groom their animals.

Competitive and Educational Exhibits:More than 600 exhibitors have found it’s fun and profitable to exhibit their achievements at the Fair. Everything from baked and canned goods to sewing, quilting and artwork is eligible for ribbons and prize money.

Each day there are baking competitions, including Youth Cupcakes sponsored by Houser Auction Company, Angel Food Cake, PA Preferred Cookie, Brownie & Bar Youth Contest, New Tripoli Bank Apple Pie, Refreshing Rhubarb Dessert, and The Neffs National Bank Homemade Chocolate Cake Contest.

Commercial displays:Trucks, pet supplies, sunrooms and candles are just some of the products showcased at the Fair. More than 50 vendors will have products for sale.

Food:You’ll find favorites like cotton candy, fresh-cut French fries, hand-squeezed lemonade, hot sausage, and funnel cakes. There are 20 food stands, plus the Fire Company Cafe which features full meals with daily specials.

Entertainment:There’s the “Rowdy Rooster Puppet Show,” “Hansen’s Spectacular Acrobatic Sensations,” “Masters of the Chainsaw,” the “Brad Matchett Comedy Hypnotist Show,” the “Wanna Be a Farmer” tent, and the 4-H Barnyard Zoo.

Music:Local bands will perform evenings on the pavilion stage, including Country Rhythm, June 20; Rehrig Brothers, June 21; Droppn Throu, June 22; Crippled Moonshine, June 23, and Crazy Heart, June 24.

Quarter Midget Racing:6 p.m. June 20, 6:30 p.m. June 22 and 23.

Fireworks:10 p.m. June 23.

Carnival Rides:Goodtime Amusements, Hellertown, is providing carnival rides. Twenty rides, game booths, and food concessions are part of the carnival. Rides are included with admission to anyone more than 32-in.-tall.
