“Evita” already a PSF hit:Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival’s highly-anticipated production of “Evita” opens June 16 with record-breaking ticket sales at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts at DeSales University in Center Valley. “Evita,” with its cast of 40 the largest ever at PSF, is directed by PSF Associate Artistic Director, Dennis Razze. “Evita” previews June 14 and 15, opens June 16, and continues through July 2. Leading the cast is Broadway veteran and Easton native Dee Roscioli, above, as Eva Peron. World-renowned baritone and Tony Award winner Paulo Szot plays Eva’s husband, Colonel Juan Domingo Perón. Le jazz hot:Viktorija Gecyte with the Go-Trio performs at 7:30 p.m. June 16 in the “Jazz Upstairs” series, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. Gecyte, above right, a Lithuanian-born, Paris-based vocalist who’s steeped in the jazz tradition, takes her “Steam Heat Tour 2017” across the United States and Europe, with the Go Trio, headed by, above left, bassist Gene Perla, and pianist Sean Gough, and drummer Nic Cacioppo, with special guest, Ben Seacrist on trumpet. Earnestly delivering standards such as “That Old Black Magic” and “Night And Day” with a sweet, unaffected voice and an engaging smile, it may be surprising to find her singing without a noticeable accent, but Gecyte went to Lafayette College on a scholarship. “Hair” appointment:Plan to see the 50th anniversary of the rock musical “Hair,” above, opening June 14 and continuing through July 2 to open the 37th season of Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre (MSMT) at Muhlenberg College, Allentown. Join the Age of Aquarius and celebrate the freewheeling counterculture of the 1960s with a “tribe” of non-conformists as they groove to the music, including 1960s hits “Good Morning Starshine” and “Let the Sunshine In.” Director James Peck returns to MSMT following last season’s production of “In the Heights.” He’s reunited with music director Ed Bara and choreographer Samuel Antonio Reyes.
