Weisenberg board organizes

With the departure of Bob Milot from the Weisenberg Township Board of Supervisors, the remaining members, along with the newly appointed supervisor Tony Werley, had to establish a new hierarchy.

Linda Gorgas will serve as chairwoman, Tom Wehr vice chairman and Tony Werley as board member.

This organization will stand until the reorganization meeting in January 2018.

The junkyard license was discussed again.

The C. Lick Jr. salvage yard, 9575 Old Route 22, needs some shrubbery around the perimeter in certain places.

Supervisors decided trees must be planted before the license is issued.

The township will be purchasing a Ford pickup truck from Upper Macungie.

It is a 2009 model and comes with a plow for a cost of $15,700.

Act 172 of 2016 was discussed.

This was signed into law last year and would give tax breaks to volunteer firefighters.

They could get a rebate on their property taxes or on their local income tax.

The law will go into effect in 2018 and the board must decide who qualifies and who does not.

Brian Carl, wearing his fire chief hat, noted the Number of calls for the year was 57.

Tony Werley informed the board that one of the dump trucks needs a new body.

Replacement would cost $6,456.

The board was OK with this request.

Carl, this time wearing his administrator chapeau, told the board he will collect all the items necessary to update the zoning ordinance and the comprehensive plan.

Gorgas noted the employee handbook also needs attention.
