A Salisbury Township native who is head counselor in the summer playground program has been appointed to the township recreation advisory committee.

Kim Ringhoffer, summer playground program head counselor for two years, will fill the unexpired term of Antonella DiMatteo, who resigned from the committee.

Township commissioners voted 3-0 with two commissioners absent for the vote at the June 8 township meeting, to appoint Ringhoffer, who was recommended by the recreation committee. Genny Baillie, township recreation director, attended the meeting.

Ringhoffer will complete the unexpired term which ends Jan. 1, 2019.

In her May 19 application letter to the committee, Ringhoffer noted she has been a township parks summer playground program counselor for the past five summers.

“I served as a board member on the Race for Adam Committee for six years, and helped with planning various fundraising efforts for a local boy with Niemann-Pick disease,” Ringhoffer stated in her letter.

“The position on the recreation advisory committee would provide me with an excellent opportunity to utilize my leadership skills, and I believe that I would bring creativity and many valuable ideas to the committee.

“As a prospective event planner, this position will allow me to gain experience with devising ideas for events through suggesting enjoyable recreational programs that will benefit the residents of the community.

“Through my activity coordinator position at Lehigh University, my primary responsibility is to successfully plan and execute events for graduate students, so I believe my experience thus far would be very advantageous to the committee,” Ringhoffer said.

Commissioner Vice President Robert Martucci Jr. made the motion to vote on the appointment because Ringhoffer lives in Ward 1, which Martucci represents. Commissioner President James A. Brown seconded the motion.

In other business at the June 8 meeting, commissioners voted 3-0 to approve:

•Amending the moving permit ordinance. Among the changes are a requirement for landlords to provide the township secretary with the address of the real estate and the name of the person to whom the real estate is rented and also when the person renting moves. Information about the apartment must include whether the apartment is in an apartment complex or single-family dwelling, whether the apartment has a private entrance, a private kitchen and whether it is a basement level. The township will issue a moving permit costing $10. A person who is moving must verify a moving permit has been issued. Martucci made the motion to vote on the ordinance, seconded by Commissioner Joanne Ackerman.

•A parking ordinance revision for a handicapped space at 1601 33rd St. Southwest. Salisbury Township Chief of Police Allen W. Stiles reviewed the request and recommended approval. A handicap parking sign is to be installed and enforced. Ackerman made the motion to vote on the ordinance, seconded by Martucci.

•A motion to accept a $104,881.67 bid received May 17 from Insituform Technologies, Inc. for the Sanitary Sewer System Rehabilitation - 2017 Mainline Cured-In-Place Pipe Lining Project. The project, in the vicinity of Salisbury High School, is part of a $824,854 joint regional project with Upper Macungie and Lower Macungie townships. Ackerman made the motion to vote on the motion, seconded by Martucci.

•A motion to accept a $435,425 bid received May 15 from Inline Services, LLC for the township water meter replacement project, which is to start in about one month, according to Salisbury Township Consulting Engineer David J. Tettemer. The cost of the meters is separate. The township-wide project will take about six months to complete. Each meter is to take about one hour to replace. There are 3,200 meters to be replaced. Funds for the project were included in a 2016 township bond issue. The meters were said to have been replaced 20 years ago. Martucci made the motion to vote on the motion, seconded by Ackerman.

A motion to authorize payment No. 1 of $111,588.30 to Standard Pipe Services, LLC (formerly Fast Pipe Lining East, Inc.) for the sanitary sewer system rehabilitation - 2016 Main Line Cured-In-Place Pipe Lining Project, which is an ongoing project completed in the vicinity of SHS. Ackerman made the motion to vote on the motion, seconded by Martucci.

During the workshop following the meeting, commissioners discussed the draft of a policy on filling swimming pools in the township.
