Jackson Bartholomew, Dylan Martin, Jacob Licker and Jacob Goldstein received the rank of Eagle Scout in a recent Court of Honor ceremony.

State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, family, friends, fellow Eagle Scouts and current Troop leaders, Scouts and their families attended the event held at Macungie Memorial Hall. Tyler Yankey, of the Boy Scouts of America Minsi Trails Council, served as the keynote speaker for the event.

The four Scouts are members of Boy Scout Troop 71 which is sponsored by Solomon’s United Church of Christ in Macungie.

The Eagle Scout Award is the highest achievement in Boy Scouting.

Jackson, the son of Cheryl and Kelly Bartholomew, started in Cub Scouts as a Tiger Cub with Pack 71. As a Boy Scout, Jackson earned 26 merit badges and held various leadership positions, including assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, troop guide and librarian. He earned gold status of the National Outdoor Award. Jackson was elected to the Order of the Arrow and achieved the Brotherhood rank.

For his Eagle Scout project, Jackson led the design, renovation, and furnishing of a room at the Allentown Rescue Mission. Within 700 square feet, the room functions as a classroom, recreation room and clinic waiting area. Jackson and his father also designed and built six conference room tables. Jackson donated his own flat screen television, his Wii gaming system and board and video games to the room. Jackson achieved the rank of Eagle Oct. 16, 2016.

Jackson will graduate from Emmaus High School and will attend Lehigh Carbon Community College majoring in communications.

Dylan, the son of Jodie and Donald Martin, started in Cub Scouts as a Bobcat with Pack 71. As a Boy Scout, Dylan earned merit badges and held various leadership positions. Dylan was elected to the Order of the Arrow and achieved the Brotherhood rank. During his Scouting career, Dylan participated in the local VFW’s Patriot Pen Youth Essay Competition, hiking and camping events and community service events.

For his Eagle Scout project, Dylan renovated the nursery room at Solomon’s UCC, the church where he was confirmed and the church sponsoring Troop 71. Dylan, with the help of other Scouts and family members, repainted walls and replaced carpeting, padding, cove base, switch plates and outlet covers. Dylan achieved the rank of Eagle Dec. 23, 2016.

Dylan will graduate from Emmaus High School in June and will attend LCCC. He then plans to transfer to Philadelphia University to major in architecture or drafting and design.

Jacob Licker, the son of Janice and Jody, started in Cub Scouts with Pack 71. As a Boy Scout, Jacob earned merit badges and held various leadership positions, including senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, scribe, patrol leader, den chief, Order of the Arrow representative and chaplain’s aide. Jacob was elected to the Order of the Arrow and achieved the Brotherhood rank. During the summers, Jacob worked at Akelaland Cub Scout Resident Camp as an outdoor skills instructor.

For his Eagle project, Jacob worked with the Greater Lehigh Valley Coalition of Foster Care Organizations to provide 100 foster care children with a duffel bag, flashlight, notebook, stuffed animal and a blanket. Jacob achieved the rank of Eagle Feb. 21.

Jacob will graduate from Emmaus High School in June and will attend Colgate University, majoring in neuroscience.

Jacob, son of Melissa and Jason Goldstein, started in Cub Scouts with Pack 71. As a Boy Scout, Jacob earned 24 merit badges and held various leadership positions, including senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, scribe, and Webmaster. Jacob’s Scouting experiences include participation at summer Boy Scout camps at Trexler, Hawk Mountain and Rodney.

Jacob’s Eagle Scout Project was a patio at the cemetery of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, where he is a member and was confirmed. The process took over a year to complete. He helped the church raise funds for the project by selling memorial bricks that could be engraved before being placed on the patio. Scouts dug holes to plant posts to support a wooden frame to function as a perimeter. Stones were then placed inside the frame to level the ground for the bricks to be put down. Finally, the bricks were placed. Jacob achieved the rank of Eagle on March 7.

Jacob will graduate from Emmaus High School in June and will attend Franklin and Marshall College with plans to continue to law school.
