Morning blaze damages trailers at East Allen freight terminal

Firefighters and emergency vehicles from across the Lehigh Valley responded June 1 to a fire at the Consolidated Freight terminal in East Allen Township.

Although initial reports speculated fireworks were on the truck that was ablaze, it was later confirmed the truck contained butane lighters.

The fire burned for nearly three hours before it was extinguished.

The freight terminal, located off Chrisphalt Road, is a transfer station where cargo from one truck is loaded onto another.

To keep things efficient, the docks and the loading area are located closely to each other.

The disadvantage of the configuration is fire can quickly spread to adjacent trailers.

In all, two trailers suffered extensive damage. A third was less damaged. There was only minor damage to the terminal.

There were no reported injuries, although an ambulance was at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to reports. None of the firefighters on site would speculate on the cause.

The terminal is also about a mile from Bath Borough’s George Wolf Elementary School, part of Northampton Area School District.
