Class of 1959 gathers for mini-reunion in Florida

Members of Parkland High School’s Class of 1959 recently gathered for their fifth get-together and mini-reunion at the Mission Inn, a central Florida destination resort in Lake County, Fla.

The event was hosted by classmates Howard Sechler and Dave Everett.

Fifteen people attended including 10 members of the Class of ’59, four spouses, and one friend of a classmate.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet brunch served in one of the Mission Inn Resort’s restaurants, La Hacienda.

The dining room overlooked the attractive grounds of the golf course.

Brunch was served with complimentary mimosas and Champagne and the piano bar provided enjoyable entertainment.

The balmy warm weather and the great company could not have been better.

Everyone thanked Sechler and Everett for making the event happen.

After brunch, the group gathered at the beautiful home of Sunny and Howard Sechler in Leesburg, continuing the enjoyable experience of exchanging personal stories about their lives and families, recalling and sharing memories of their Parkland High School experiences and enjoying delicious treats, snacks and refreshing drinks.

Another Class of ’59 mini-reunion will be scheduled again in the Sarasota area of Florida in 2018.

In addition, the class reunion is scheduled for Sept. 20 at the Iron Lakes Country Club, 3625 Shankweiler Road, Orefield.

Thanks go to Class of ’59 reunion committee members for planning this upcoming event.

Committee members include Howard Sechler, Timothy Titmas, Joann (Tzope) Grim, Marion Brong, Donald Ludwig, Elaine (Snyder) Knauss and Carol (Hersh) Kuhns.

The committee is proactive in planning these annual events which keep classmates connected and informed.

Thanks also goes to Kate (Johnson) Kareha, Parkland High School Class of 2003, executive director, Parkland School District Education Foundation, who keeps the Class of 1959 updated on the foundation’s activities in the school district and the community.

Everyone who continues to provide support is appreciated and is helping to keep the wonderful spirit of PHS Class of 1959 alive.
