LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q: What grade are you in?

A: I am in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.

Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subject is anatomy, which I took in 11th grade. I love this subject because it teaches you so much about yourself and the people who surround you, and there is truly nothing more applicable to your own life than learning about the body that you live in.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: Special awards I have received are first place in the Valley Youth House Conference video contest with Salisbury’s Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter, Homecoming Queen, award of appreciation from the Lehigh Valley DUI Highway Safety Task Force, Colonial League First Team All-Star for girls soccer, Defensive MVP of the girls soccer team in 2015 and 2016 and captain of the girls soccer team.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: I like to stay very involved in my school and community by taking part in several extracurriculars at Salisbury. I am currently president of Student Government Association, president of SADD and vice president of the class of 2017. I am also a member of National Honor Society, No Place For Hate, the Superintendent/Student Advisory and Future Business Leaders of America. I have played on the soccer team for the past four years and I am currently on the softball team for the first time this season. I also worked with a classmate to plan and host the “Mr. Salisbury” pageant this spring.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: After high school, I will be attending Fairleigh Dickinson University and majoring in biology, while partaking in the honors program at FDU and playing on the womens soccer team. My goal is to continue improving my work ethic as a college student, athlete and member of a community and strive to be better than I was the day before. It is very important to me that I excel in college, because after I graduate, I plan to attend graduate school to pursue a career as a physician assistant.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A: My biggest challenge thus far in life has been learning to manage my time so I leave time for myself to relax. I am usually always on the go, because I like to stay busy, but I have learned that it is important to budget time for yourself to unwind and de-stress.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I want to be remembered as someone who was selfless and kind. I always try my best to put myself in other people’s shoes and see things from their perspective, that way I do not judge anyone and treat everyone positively.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: My family consists of my parents, Kim and Luis, my two older sisters, Kristina and Jessicca and my dog, Cozmo.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I definitely look up to both of my sisters. Each of them has taught me really important lessons in life and have helped me decide the type of person I would like to be. They have set very high standards for me to follow and I believe that each of them have instilled characteristics in me that have lead me to be successful as I have grown. Kristina, who is 24 and a nurse at Lehigh Valley Hospital, devotes her time to constantly serving others. Jessicca, who is 22, is graduating from West Chester University this May and has an extremely strong work ethic and motivation. Both of them are magnificent sisters and individuals and I am extremely thankful to have them in my life.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: My advice to peers would be to always put yourself in other people’s shoes, because you never know what others are going through. It may be hard to get good grades, or to win every game of the season, but it’s easy to be a decent person.
