Eric W. Smith, 93, of Macungie, formerly of New London, Conn. and Waterford, Conn., died May 1, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth S. (Kienle) Smith and Joan (Todd) Smith. Born in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, March 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Max W. and Elsie (Worsley) Smith.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II with a rank of technical sergeant. He was a graduate of Bryant University, Springfield, R.I., with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He was employed as a vice president at Hartford National 1955 to 1985. He was a life member of Overseas Lodge No. 40, F. & A.M., Cranston, R.I., and a longtime member of The New London Country Club and The Thames Club. He was a very accomplished golfer and loved the sport.
He is survived by children, Wade T. and his partner Bellie Hacker, of Cambridge, Mass., Marsha and her husband Peter Kirk, of Hurricane, Utah and Tracey and her husband Sammy Dev, of Huntington Beach, Calif; stepchildren, Ralph Schleicher and his wife Donna, of Schnecksville, Lore Ross, of Zionsville; grandchildren, Altaira E., Miranda L., Max Dev and Amelia Dev; stepgrandchildren, Christina Wagner, Matthew Schleicher, Alexander Schleicher, Scott Ross and Ian Ross; predeceased by a brother, Neil R. who died in 2008 and a grandson, Kevin Purdy who died in 2004.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, Mass. 02481.
