Creighton, Papay Bailey to battle for bench seat

Four candidates cross-filed for Tuesday’s Municipal Primary Election to replace District Judge Rod Beck in Magisterial District 31-3-01.

According to unofficial Lehigh County Voter Registration numbers, Tom Creighton came in at the top of the Republican side of the ticket having garnered 664 votes, 33.55 percent of the vote.

Angelique Papay Bailey received an unofficial 467 votes on the Democratic side of the ballot giving her 42.77 percent of that vote.

Creighton first served as a Lynn Township supervisor for six years then as a county commissioner, now in his eighth year.

He spoke with The Press Wednesday morning following the election.

“I just want to thank all my supporters for all the hard work they did,” Creighton said. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them and all their prayers.

Creighton also thanked all the voters who went to the polls.

“I hope to gain over the support of the people who voted for my fellow Republicans and have them cast their votes for me in November,” Creighton said.

Papay Bailey, an attorney from Washington Township, emailed The Press Wednesday morning.

“I feel honored and extremely happy to be advancing forward in this race,” Papay Bailey wrote. “Although I am a proud Republican, I always say that I try to vote according to the candidates and the issues.

“I did my best to run a positive campaign in hopes that the voters would choose me because I was the best and most qualified candidate. I tried showing this by focusing on my education and experience. I would like to thank my friends and family for all their help and support- this is a group victory and certainly not an individual one.

“Also, I would like to recognize Mr. Robert Williams and Mr. Preston O’Connor for running competitive and positive campaigns. All four of us tried very hard and I think the voters were in a really ideal situation because all of the candidates were very capable, intelligent, and motivated; so often a race is won by picking the lesser of two evils… in this instance, the voters had four great choices.

“I look forward to facing off against Mr. Creighton in the November election and it is my hope to continue to run a positive campaign.
