May 17

Emmaus Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fifth and Chestnut streets. There will be an election of board directors, followed by the program by Bill Barto on “The Emaus Band Goes to War-Part II.” The Emaus Band, led by John Z. Iobst, marched to Doylestown in September 1861 and enlisted in the 104th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. Part Two will answer the question of where the band was while the regiment was under heavy attack at the 1862 Fair Oaks battle. For more information, call 610-966-6591.

Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, will host a Dixieland jazz service 10:30 a.m. The Dixieland All-Stars will perform under the direction of Kevin O’Connell, retired director of the Eyer Junior High Band. There will also be two numbers performed by the Macungie Minstrelaires.

Upper Milford Historical Society meeting 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township Municipal Building, Old Zionsville. Graveside Memorial Day services will be conducted by the Macungie V.F.W. Flag Raising and Placing of Wreath Ceremony will take place at the Macungie Memorial Park, Veteran’s Memorial 8:30 a.m. The Macungie Memorial Day Parade will begin at the William A. Shoemaker Elementary School 10:00 a.m. The parade route follows East Main Street (Route 100) from Fairview Street to the Macungie Memorial Park Bandshell. Following the parade, the 69th Annual Macungie Memorial Day Program will be conducted at the Macungie Park Bandshell at approximately 10:45 a.m. The guest speaker is Borough of Macungie Mayor Gary W. Cordner. A memorial service will be held at the Lehigh-Northampton Vietnam Veterans Memorial, 287 Lehigh St., Macungie noon. All are invited to remain for free refreshments following the memorial service. In the event of rain, the parade will be cancelled and the Memorial Day Services will be held in the Macungie Memorial Park auditorium, 50 N.
