Eric W. Smith
Eric W. Smith, 93, of Macungie, formerly of New London, Conn., and Waterford, Conn., died May 1, 2017, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He was the husband of the late Elizabeth S. (Kienle) Smith and Joan (Todd) Smith.
Born March 3, 1924, in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Max W. and Elsie (Worsley) Smith.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II with a rank of technical sergeant.
A graduate of Bryant University, Springfield, R.I., with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, he was a vice president at Hartford National from 1955-85.
He was a life member of Overseas Lodge No. 40, F.&A.M., Cranston, R.I., and a longtime member of The New London Country Club and The Thames Club.
A very accomplished golfer, he loved the sport.
His survivors include children Wade T. Smith and his partner, Bellie Hacker, of Cambridge, Mass., Marsha Kirk and her husband, Peter, of Hurricane, Utah, and Tracey Dev and her husband, Sammy of Huntington Beach, Calif.; stepchildren Ralph Schleicher and his wife, Donna, of Schnecksville, Lore Ross of Zionsville; grandchildren Altaira E. and Miranda L. Smith, Max and Amelia Dev; step-grandchildren Christina Wagner, Matthew and Alexander Schleicher, Scott and Ian Ross.
He was predeceased by a brother, Neil R. Smith, who died in 2008, and his grandson, Kevin Purdy, who died in 2004.
His service will be private. There will be no calling hours.
