Three candidates vie for county executive seat in November race

Voters will be casting their ballots May 16 in the Municipal Primary Election for one of three candidates for a four-year term as Lehigh County executive.

Phillips Armstrong

Democrat Armstrong of Whitehall Township is unopposed in the primary. He will face the successful Republican candidate from the May contest in the November General Election.

Two Republicans, Glenn Eckhart, of Salisbury Township, and Brad Osborne, of South Whitehall Township, are seeking the Lehigh County Executive seat.

We asked each Republican candidate the following question: Why should voters cast their vote for you for county executive?

Glenn Eckhart

“I am the only proven Conservative running for County Executive. I have a record of cutting government spending, keeping taxes low and reforming pensions.

I am running because the taxpayers of Lehigh County deserve an advocate. This election comes down to this, more action and less rhetoric.

“I walk the walk when it comes to my conservative credentials. I don’t just talk about it come election time.

“In addition, I am the most experienced candidate running and experience matters! I ask for your vote for me, Glenn Eckhart for Lehigh County Executive in the Republican primary on May 16.”

Brad Osborne

“This election is about who is most prepared to lead Lehigh County into the future, the ninth largest employer in the Lehigh Valley with almost 2,000 employees and a $400M budget.

“The citizens of Lehigh County deserve an executive with a proven record of significant results both in the private and public sectors to manage this level of responsibility.

“My business management experience and public service leadership positions me to provide innovation, accountability, and transparency to Lehigh County government.

“As a plant manager and a small business owner, I have successfully managed multi-million dollar budgets and personnel performance.

“As an experienced legislator, I understand the challenges that taxpayers face every day.

“That’s why I led our Lehigh County Board of Commissioners to cut taxes four of the past five years, and returned over $27 million to the taxpayers of Lehigh County.

“In my years as a commissioner - both in Lehigh County and in South Whitehall Township - I have overseen a dozen budgets without a single tax increase, a record that has earned me the endorsement of Citizens Against Higher Taxes, the oldest taxpayer advocacy organization in Pennsylvania.
