The Parkland track and field teams ended the regular season last week and both finished at or near the top of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference standings.

Parkland’s boys team went 11-0 this season and tied Pleasant Valley for the regular season league title. The Trojan girls team finished 10-1 this season and was tied with Liberty for second place in the league, just behind Stroudsburg (11-0).

The postseason began Tuesday with the EPC/Colonial League Championship at East Stroudsburg South High School. With many events still to be contested Wednesday (after Press deadline), some Parkland athletes put in impressive performances on the first day of the 2017 postseason.

The Parkland boys were in fifth place in the team standings after one day, while the girls team was fourth heading into Wednesday.

The Trojans had two silver-medal performances on Tuesday as Franco Perinotti got second place in pole vault at 11 feet, 9 inches and the boys 3200-meter relay team of Sam Morgan, Jacob Ringer, Jonathan Snyder and Riley Williamson crossed the line in second place with a time of 8:12.29.

Christine Hutchinson earned a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.43.

Parkland’s girls 3200-meter relay team took fourth place with a time of 9:55.36. That foursome included Devyn Anderson, Ava Schaller, Sydney DelVecchio and Celine Boychuck.

Shelby Staib (triple jump) and Carter Choma (pole vault) leaped to fifth-place finished on Tuesday. Staid sailed 34 feet, 4 1/2 inches in the triple jump. Choma cleared 10-9 in pole vault.

DelVecchio and Nicholas Bower earned sixth-place finishes in the 3200-mter run. DelVecchio ran the event in 11:59.36. Bower finished in 9:55.98.

A couple Trojans seventh-place finishers included Claire Bassler in 300 hurdles (51.08) and Madison Mac Hose in the shot put (30-1).

Xavier Huff (shot put), Michael Gombos (triple jump) and Juan Salas Negron (triple jump) made the top 10 in their events. Huff was ninth in at 42-3. Gombos also finished ninth after jumping 41-0 3/4. Salas Negron leaped 40-10.

Other Trojans finishing outside the top 10 Tuesday include Hailemichael Geiger (10th in 3200 at 10:06.27),Madison Zaun (11th in 3200 in 12:04.05), Daniel Pruzinsky (11th in 300 hurdles in 42.78),Nathan Rode (11th in 3200 in 10:16.32), Steven Kaleycik (12th in 3200 in 10:16.97), Giovanni Recchia (12th in triple jump at 40-6), Stephanie Hunter (12th in triple jump at 32-7.5), Megan Kearns (12th in pole vault at 7-6), Erin Wood (15th in 3200 in 12:14.69), Adriel Montes (20th in 300 hurdles in 44.58), Sam Graver (24th in triple jump at 30-0.5).

Some track events began on Tuesday with preliminary heats and continued Wednesday with finals.

Parkland’s Julian Colon made a pair of finals, finishing second in the 200-meter dash (22.91) and fifth in the 100 (11.47).

Grace Reed will also return for finals after posting the third-best time for the 100 hurdles preliminaries. Christine Hutchinson earned the final spot in girls 100-meter hurdles with an eighth-place finish in 17.59.

Other Parkland preliminary performances that did not result in qualification for finals include Montes Adriel (12th in 110 hurdles in 16.96), Habeeb Salau (14th in 100 in 11.64; 11th in 200 in 22.83), Claire Bassler (13th in 100 hurdles in 18.40), Emily Willcox (15th in 200 in 27.54), Anthony Glosson (17th in 100 dash in 11.73); (19th in 200 in 24.44) and Alana Marie Dee (23rd in 100 dash in 13.73).
