Senior center

Lehigh Valley Active Life, 1633 W Elm Street, Allentown, will be hosting the following programs for seniors in May.

The following groups and disc jockeys will be playing oldies and requests at the Saturday and Wednesday dances, so come out and enjoy the music with your friends.

May 6 and 17– King Henry and Jacob

May 13 – Steel City Band

May 20 - DJ Bobby Koch

Saturday dances will be held 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. and the Wednesday dance will be 1-4 p.m. in the Trexler Room. Cost per person includes light refreshments. Singles and couples welcome.

Good Vibrations” Chorus is beginning a new season with a new director and will meet 9:30 – 11 a.m. May 8, 15, and 22. All singers are welcome. Come and have fun while making some new friends.

Instructor Al Skeath will be hosting the following historical talks:

“Barbara-The Way We Were” from 10-11 a.m. May 5.

“The Golden Age of Hollywood 1930-1950” 12:30-1:30 p.m. May 24.

Additional historical talks include:

“Cuba! Cuba! Observations and Tales or a recent visit to the Tropical Isle” 12:30-1:30 p.m. May 8 with Neal Neamand;

“Bizarre Tales from WWII” 1-2 p.m. May 15 and 22 with Ted LaRose;

“The Air Attack on Ploesti August 1, 1943” 2-3 p.m. May 17 with Dr. Charles Bonos; and

“On the Pizza Trail: My search for the best tomato pies” 10-11:30 a.m. May 18 with Tom Repasch.

May 17 - Angela Faidley will lead a paint and wine class called “Jeweled Tree” from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

This class is for novices who will create their own masterpiece. Price includes materials and wine.

The senior center will be hosting the following movies at 12:15 p.m.:

The movie “The Danish Girl” May 10 is the story of Danish painter Einar Wegener, who in 1931 became the first man to undergo a sex change operation. His wife Greta, also a painter, discovers her husband’s affinity for feminine attire when he sits in for one of her models.

The movie “Snowden” May 24 is a 2016 American biographical political thriller film directed by Oliver Stone and written by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald, and based on the books “The Snowden Files” by Luke Harding and “Time of the Octopus” by Anatoly Kucherena.
