BREAKING NEWS:

An Upper Macungie Township woman died April 27 after she was attacked by her own dog.

Upper Macungie police were called to the home along Spring White Drive at 1: 28 p.m., and, as they arrived, the woman was being attacked by the dog, a 3-1/2 year-old pit bull/boxer mix, on the rear deck of her home, which is in the Trexler Field subdivision.

Police approached the dog and the woman, whom they say had severe injuries, and secured the dog in the home.

Cetronia Ambulance Corps arrived on the scene, tended to the woman and transported her to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where she was pronounced dead.

Police called Pennsylvania Dog Warden Orlando Aguire, who came to the scene, along with representatives of the Lehigh County Humane Society.

The dog, which was tranquilized at the scene, was taken to the Lehigh County Human Society where it will be euthanized.

The dog will then be sent for testing in an attempt to determine the cause of the attack.

According to information provided by Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim, the woman was pronounced dead at 2:46 p.m.

An autopsy was scheduled for April 28 to determine her exact cause of death.

Also assisting at the scene were firefighters from Good Will Station 25, Trexlertown, and Station 56, Upper Macungie.
