Student reps give report

Elizabeth Fornauf and Paige Stitzel, student representatives, began their report to the Northwestern Lehigh School Board April 19 with a sports update.

In track and field, the girls were 5-1 overall in the Colonial League with three meets left. The boys were 3-3 overall with three meets left.

In baseball, Northwestern was 5-3 overall in the Colonial League and 3-2 in their division. Softball was 5-3 overall in the Colonial League and 3-2 in their division.

The science team of Northwestern middle and high schools entered the regional Computer Tech Fair at Lehigh Carbon Community College on March 27.

Michael Sikora and Kelly Rissell worked behind the scenes and directly with the students.

The results were: digital video, second, Jackson Bernhard and Isaac Bredbenner; digital video, third, Emily Tedesco and Emily Yacynych; and animation, second, Katelyn Morrison.

They also gave kudos to the debate team which competed at the Kutztown semifinals.

The semifinalists secured one judge in the first round, a win and two judges in the second round, and a win in the third round.

Sommer Farthing secured one perfect score; Ben Fry had two perfect scores and Kyah Harding earned three prefect scores.

Eight students attended the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Hershey.

Those who competed were Tom Creighton, Jason Blaine, Jake Sacco, Riley Schaffer, Meghan McGorry, Brad Shafer, Adriana Walp, and Hannah Gough.

Fornauf and Stitzel congratulated Walp for placing seventh in the Human Resources Management open competition at the competition.

The spring concert and art show for the high school is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 17.

The Mr. Northwestern competition will be presented 7 p.m. May 5 in the middle school auditorium.

The boys competing have been working vigorously to be ready for this competition, Fornauf and Stitzel reported.

With construction underway in the high school, students are becoming used to new parking spots, traffic patterns and bus procedures.

The two student representatives also congratulated Jonathan Gambler, bronze medalist, in the Family Career and Community Leaders of America Pennsylvania State Leadership Conference for food innovations.

He is a culinary arts student at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute.

LCTI Students of the Month for March are auto technology, Austin Ballein; welding technology, Darren Dengler; plumbing and heating, Noah Reiter and diesel medium and heavy truck technology, Jack Turner.
