Snowflakes, bumblebees and inchworms highlight photography contest

The photography contest held at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center for the fourth year was the largest ever.

One hundred fifty-two photographs were submitted and 90 were chosen for exhibit.

The jurors were Phil Campbell, Paul Laincz, Josh Finsel and Anita Collins.

Categories were Insects and Amphibians, Macro of Nature, Your Backyard within Walking Distance, and Youth.

Both the first and second places in the People’s Choice award were in the youth category.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to stretch a little bit,” said an art teacher talking to a friend about the youth entries.

Many of the photographs had sale prices. Collins said there were more sales than in previous years.

Collins, a member of the Entomological Society of America, said there were many good photographs, and that the society is looking for photographs for its 2018 calendar.

Photos may be submitted at entsoc.org.

Next year’s categories for the LGNC show are Youth, Water, Lehigh Gap Nature Center and Black and White.
