Jakum announces candidacy for Heidelberg Twp supervisor

Jonathan Jakum has announced he is seeking election to the two-year term in office vacated by former Supervisor Rodney Schlauch Jr. on the Heidelberg Township Board of Supervisors.

“Like many people, I was originally attracted to the area because of the abundance of open farmland and lack of development,” Jakum said. “I grew up in the Gettysburg area where I earned the rank of Eagle Scout planting trees on the battlefield and mending old fences at the Eisenhower farm.”

A Heidelberg Township resident for nine years, Jakum graduated from Kutztown University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in communication design. He is a full-time graphic artist.

“I currently serve as a Lehigh County GOP Committeeperson and member of the Environmental Advisory Committee for Heidelberg Township,” Jakum said.

“I am fiscally conservative, with a great appreciation for history, especially local history, preservation of the environment and local sustainability.”

Jakum says his hobbies include outdoor activities, gardening, beekeeping, landscaping and old-house restoration.

“As a supervisor, I would dedicate myself to maintaining the quality of life for all residents and preserving the rural character of the township,” Jakum said. “I’m a pretty quiet guy, and I don’t usually have a lot to say but I always enjoy listening to other people’s opinions and comments.”
