Cancer warrior gives back to the community

Recently diagnosed with his fourth relapse, Wyatt Newhard, a 12-year-old cancer warrior, created 75 Easter bags from donations he collected.

The plucky New Tripoli resident distributed them to other pediatric cancer warriors and their siblings during the April 12 Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley event.

Newhard has been battling neuroblastoma, a cancer that develops from immature nerve cells, since he was 3.

“A lot of people did a lot for me and I want to give back to the community,” Newhard said.

He was also grateful for the help he received from family and friends in putting together the gift baskets.

Owen Luchansky and his brother Zachary Kresge, 7, of Coplay, who lost their four-and-a-half-year-old sister Ella Luchansky to neuroblastoma three years ago were recipients of Newhard’s gift bags.

PCFLV is a Bethlehem-based, nonprofit dedicated to helping local pediatric cancer patients and their families by providing free and unique programming during all stages of treatment, survivorship and bereavement.
