Emmanuel E. Ramirez, 27, of Maywood, California, was found dead April 13 inside a hotel room at the Staybridge Suites Allentown West, 327 Star Road, Upper Macungie Township.
Lehigh County Coroner Scott M. Grim said he pronounced Ramirez dead at 12:55 a.m. April 14.
Grim said an autopsy was performed that morning.
The cause of Ramirez’s death is pending toxicology test results, Grim said.
According to Upper Macungie Township Police, preliminary indications are Ramirez died of an apparent drug overdose.
Officers were dispatched to the hotel at 9:11 p.m. April 13 for a report of a man yelling for help in the hotel hallway, police say.
Officers entered the hotel room and found a man, who was later identified as Ramirez, dead.
In addition, another man in the room was found to be disoriented, ill and intoxicated by an unknown substance, police say.
Police say due to the unknown nature of an alleged powder found inside the room, emergency responders contacted Lehigh County HazMat Response Team, which arrived on scene and went through the slow and deliberate process of ensuring the room and scene were safe.
Preliminary field tests, police say, revealed the substance was cocaine, and the scene was turned back over to police investigators.
The specific floor and wing of the room occupied by the men was evacuated as a precaution.
The second man, transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to the hospital for evaluation, was conscious and alert before being transported by ambulance personnel.
Lehigh County Drug Task Force, Pennsylvania State Police, Upper Macungie Station 56, Fogelsville, and Good Will Fire Company, Trexlertown, assisted at the scene.
