Macungie Fire Department responds to fire at Boyko Funeral Home April 20

Macungie Fire Department responded to the early morning fire April 20 at Boyko Funeral Home, 10 E. Main St., Macungie. Chief Mike Natysyn said the fire department was dispatched around 2:30 a.m. Natysyn called a second alarm when police said flames were showing from the top of the building.

Assisting fire departments included volunteers from Alburtis, Lower Macungie, Trexlertown, Western Salisbury, Seisholtsville, Topton and Hereford.

Police began evacuating everyone out of the building safely and there were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.

The fire was contained to the third floor and no chemicals were involved in the fire.

Natysyn said owners asked firefighters to remove the remains of two individuals awaiting services from the building which were then relocated to the Boyko Funeral Home on Lehigh Street.

The fire was determined under control approximately 6 a.m.

Natysyn thanked the responding fire departments for their efforts. “Everyone did a good job in containing the fire so there wasn’t more damage,” Natysyn said.

State Police fire marshals based in Bucks County are investigating the fire.

According to Cpl. William Brett, Trooper James Welsh, Troop M alternate fire marshal, is investigating the fire. Additional interviews are being conducted. The cause of the fire as of yet is undetermined.

In a brief telephone interview, Brett said the top floor of the building was a complete loss. Investigators believe the fire originated on the third floor, possibly in a balcony area of the building.
