STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I’m in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject would have to be science, particularly any sciences related to anatomy, because learning about how parts of the body work and interact with each other so fluidly is fascinating.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: Yes. I received the Most Valuable Player award for ladies tennis four times and was named the Colonial League Tennis Champion, District Singles and Doubles Semifinalist, 2016 USTA Eastern PA District Girls 18’s Champion, 2016-17 Ladies Tennis Scholar Athlete, captain of the varsity tennis team, 2015-2016, vice-president of literary club and Students Against Destructive Decisions and received a first place award at the PA Junior Academy of Science Competition at both the regional and state level.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I am a member of the varsity tennis team, Salisbury Academic Team, varsity debate team, National Honor Society, Salisbury Theatre Company, yearbook staff, literary club and Students Against Destructive Decisions. Outside of school, I help teach an English as a Second Language class at my church as well as teaching tennis lessons at Winning Touch Tennis Club and Sand Island Tennis Courts.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: After high school I hope to major in biology at a four-year college as a pre-medicinal sciences student.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: So far my biggest challenge has been keeping on top of my activities. Each club, sport and class has different commitments and it’s difficult to stay as organized as necessary to keep everything in order.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I’d love to be remembered for being a part of the years Salisbury ladies tennis did a 180 degree turn from a one-win season to a force to be reckoned with, developing into a close-knit, constantly growing team along the way.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My family includes my mom, Maria, and my pug, Didi.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I look up to Sue Turzanski, a long-time family friend and mentor. Over the years she’s been a constant example of selflessness and generosity, the kind of person anyone would follow without a second thought. Her advice has always led me the right way.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Whether everyone or nobody at all believes in your goals, give them everything you have. Even if all you hear is how unlikely it is to reach them, with enough motivation, opportunities will seek you out that you couldn’t even begin to imagine. There’s always a chance.
