More than 13 individuals and organizations will be honored at the 2017 Salisbury Township Volunteer Recognition Dinner.

The catered dinner for volunteers being honored and their guests is 6 p.m. April 20 in the meeting room of the township municipal building.

Commissioners voted 5-0 at the April 13 meeting to approve a resolution, on a motion by commissioner Vice President Robert Martucci Jr. and seconded by Commissioner Debra Brinton, to honor:

•Adam Al-Khal, volunteering at Western Salisbury Fire Department for 11 years and now president and deputy chief.

•Charles Beck, serving on planning commission since 1978 and part of the effort to recognize the founder of youth baseball in the township.

•Valentine Durner, caretaking and beautification of Franko Farmhouse with her late husband Charles.

•Charles and Myrtie Heil, longtime township residents with a lifetime of volunteering at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest and 17th Street.

•Michael Krauss, youth-junior league sports, Salisbury Youth Association, mentoring.

•Suzanne Martin, volunteer for township projects, including Walking Purchase Park cleanup and retention basin at municipal building.

•Kyle Mertl, volunteer at Eastern Salisbury Fire Department for more than 20 years with multiple certifications and positions held.

•Barbara Miller, wildlife rescue services for township police department and at Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, Stroudsburg.

•Dan Mohry, lifelong township resident with a lifetime of volunteering in many areas, including youth sports, for the elderly, underprivileged and at community events.

•James Seagreaves, volunteer Eastern Salisbury Fire Department for 16 years and coach with Salisbury Youth Association.

•Salisbury Township Planning Commission members, for dedication in reviewing and updating the township zoning ordinance for two-plus years.

•The Swain School, for continued generosity and support of Western Salisbury Fire Department.

April was declared volunteer month by the Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners by unanimous vote at the March 23 meeting.

The proclamation stated, in part, “The Township of Salisbury is blessed to have a capable core of volunteers that are committed and dedicated to serve our community.

“The Township of Salisbury Board of Commissioners recognize the value and the benefits of the volunteers’ efforts and contributions.

“The Township of Salisbury residents are the direct beneficiaries of all volunteer efforts.”
