Children’s author/illustrator Micha Archer will visit Lower Macungie Library 2 to 3 p.m. April 20 to share her book “Daniel Finds a Poem.” There will be a storytime, craft and activity. The first 50 registered children in attendance will receive a copy of the book.

A program “Royal Women Rule” will be held 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 26. Heather Simoneau will lead an informal discussion on the influence of women on the British monarchy and world affairs. Tea and scones will be served.

Celebrate International Tabletop Day 1 to 3 p.m. April 29 by playing one of the library’s tabletop games or bringing one of your own.

There will be a Chat and Chew Book Discussion Group for students in grades four to eight at 4:15 p.m. April 25 to discuss “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. Enrollment is limited to 15 students and advanced registration is required.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. May 3 to discuss “The Joy Luck Club” by Amy Tan.

The library is no longer accepting books for the spring book sale. Please save donations for June 1.

The spring book sale will be held 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 5 and 6 with a bag sale 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. May 6. Member preview night will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. May 4. Anyone can become a Friends member at the door to attend preview night. All proceeds benefit the library.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold a 25th Anniversary and Earth Day Clothes Recycling Event 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 22 at Concordia Lutheran Church on Brookside Road. Acceptable items for the clothing drive include new and gently used clothing, shoes, coats, bedding, towels and stuffed animals. Tax donation receipts are available. Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 22.

Registration for Lower Macungie Township Pool swim lessons can be made by contacting the community center 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will not be a designated night for signups.

The Lower Macungie “Lazers” Swim Team signups will be held 5 to 7 p.m. April 24 at the community center. The season runs May 30 to July 22 and a Lower Macungie Township Pool membership is required.

Ancient Oaks will hold its annual garage sale 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 29, rain or shine.

Ancient Oaks Womens Organization will have their annual banquet May 2 at the 1760 Pub and Grille.

The Nutrition Group, East Penn’s food service provider, will present a Nutrition, Health and Safety Fair 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 29 at Lower Macungie Middle School. There will be information on nutrition and healthy snacks as well as health screenings and free food samples.

Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will hold their 18th annual used book sale 7 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. April 25 at the Lower Macungie Middle School Cafeteria in conjunction with the nutrition fair. A brown bag blowout will start 3 p.m.

Concordia Lutheran Church will hold a ribbon cutting and building dedication 1 p.m. April 29 featuring the Emmaus High School Choir, food, tours and open house. The community center will hold its seventh annual Community Day 4 to 8 p.m. May 2. Smokey Bear and other characters will be there to welcome residents. There will also be representatives from many township clubs and organizations.

Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue and at Camp Olympic. Plots are available to rent on a first-come, first-serve basis. Contact the community center for more information.

AARP will offer “Safe Driving for Mature Drivers” 5 to 9 p.m. April 25 and 27.

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 6. Each family can shred up to four boxes per household. The event is sponsored by state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, and Lower Macungie Township.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon May 1 and 15 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

The community center offers a number of activities. Programs include Latin partner dance classes, Zumba, guided meditation/relaxation, Tai Chi, chair yoga, card making classes, Pilates, and Cize Live. Children’s programs include Kindermusik, Toddlers and Tutus and Soccer-Mommy/Daddy and Me.

There will be a safe sitter program for youth ages 11 to 14 years 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29.

Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

Yard waste site winter hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The center is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Beginning May 1 the hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are now required for dropoff. Applications can be found at www.lowermac.com. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.

Yesterday Ben came home from school, excited he had an awesome day. He had three of his good behavior tickets pulled for prizes, one of which was a pack of gel crayons. He had extra recess in the gym (always a plus for a high energy 11 year old) and the next day the class got to watch a movie and eat popcorn as a treat after a week of Pennsylvania System School Assessment testing. Flush with all this good fortune, Ben decided to start a bucket list.

First Ben asked me what was on mine. I replied, “To see the Eiffel Tower.” He announced going to Heaven was going first on his list. I said, “That’s a good one.” Then he thought for a moment and said, “If I put that on, then I won’t be able to cross it off because I won’t be here.” I guess that was a deal breaker since it got taken off the list!
