HORNET HAPPENINGS

By NICHOLAS TOTO

Thirty-two students competed on eight different teams at Bloomsburg University’s annual computer competition April 11. The first place team was Ian Bowler, Bradley Klemick, Jie Luo and Nathan Walls who were the only ones to complete all 10 problems out of a total of 50 teams from eastern Pennsylvania. Emmaus teams also took fourth, sixth, seventh, ninth, 11th, 13th and 14th place. All of the other seven teams completed more than half of the programs. Congratulations to all who participated.

The Gay Straight Alliance Club will sell buttons and T-shirts at all lunches now through April 21. You can also stop at the table to pick up a card so you can participate in Day of Silence April 21.

Any student who is interested in learning art history and wants to earn college credits, go to Room 523 and share your name and information with Mrs. Soboleski to sign up for AP Art History. Students are needed.

T-shirts for this year’s art show are currently on sale until April 30. See one of the art teachers to order.

No Place for Hate’s “Caught You Being Kind” raffle will be held through April 21. Students will receive raffle entries for actively addressing issues of bigotry and bias, or by performing random acts of kindness to build a community of respect and inclusivity. The raffle includes gift baskets, gift cards and a coveted parking space.

The college fair is just a few weeks away. A list of the college fair attendees can be found at http://www.eastpennsd.org/ehs/counseling/.

The counseling office is sponsoring a “Name That College” bulletin board contest for students. Students can pick up their entry forms next to the bulletin board outside the counseling office. Read each teacher’s profile and try to identify the school where each teacher earned their undergraduate degree. Use clues from the profile and feel free to talk to the teachers as well. Students who correctly identify all 10 colleges will be entered into a drawing for a $15 Dunkin Donuts gift card. Completed entry forms are due in the counseling office by the end of the day April 28.

An admissions representative from Lehigh Carbon Community College will visit May 30 in the MMR during Periods 5, 7 and 8 to meet with seniors who have already applied to the college and plan to attend in the fall. This meeting will last approximately 15 minutes for each student and will allow them to complete the admissions process. Stop by the counseling office today to sign up for a time slot to meet with the LCCC representative.

Time is running out to purchase the 2017 yearbook. Visit www.smart-pay.com to order a copy.

Upcoming college visits include: LCCC 9 a.m. April 24, U.S. Navy 1 p.m. April 26 and Penn State University 1 p.m. April 28.

I hope you all had a Happy Easter!
