Korea/Vietnam Memorial to celebrate anniversary of U.S. Armed Forces plaza

Korea/Vietnam Memorial Inc., will be hosting the 12th anniversary of the dedication of the U.S. Armed Forces Plaza 2 p.m. April 23 at Lehigh Carbon Community College, Route 309, Schnecksville.

The dedication will honor the most recent entries at the Plaza.

Guest speaker will be Michael O’Dell of Allentown, former Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from 1965-66 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

The laying of the wreath will be conducted by Korean War Veterans of Pennsylvania.

Korea/Vietnam Memorial Board member Frank Ginther will welcome guests to the dedication.

American Legion Post 576 will be presenting and retiring the colors, giving a military gun salute and taps.

Deb Moyer, Gold Star Mother of the late U.S. Army Sgt. Ashly Lynn Moyer, of Emmaus, who was killed in Iraq on March 3, 2007, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Parkland High School graduate Erin Kelly will sing the national anthem, Armed Forces Medley and God Bless America.

The Rev. Ken Kalisz of Hope Community Church, Weisenberg Township, will give the invocation and benediction.

State Rep. Gary Day, R-187th, and Dr. Ann Bieber, president of Lehigh Carbon Community College, will give the greeting.

Leslie Bartholomew, director of LCCC Veterans Services, will also address the gathering.

A special presentation will be given by David Venditta and Dr. Donald Snyder, former state representative and former president of LCCC. Presentation of honored veterans will be conducted by Viola Hertzog, KVM secretary; and Carol Kuhns, KVM benefactors.

The program will be in memoriam of Mel Deisenroth, Violet Strohl and John Kuhns, 1959 Parkland High School graduate and former owner, with his wife Carol, of the Kuhnsville Car Wash. John Kuhns honorably and faithfully served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne from 1959-62.

He was very active in the Korea/Vietnam Memorial at LCCC, Armed Forces Plaza, and was a strong supporter of all veterans.
