A Macungie man was taken into custody overnight March 22 after allegedly fleeing from police following a car chase and crash, according to Pennsylvania State Police Reading.
A felony warrant had been issued for Rodney McDonald, 36, of the 100 block of Hunter Forge Road, for allegedly fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and related charges.
According to a media release from Pennsylvania State Police Reading, a trooper attempted to stop a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee being operated by the accused in Topton Borough 11:45 a.m. March 22. McDonald allegedly failed to stop and led the trooper on a high speed chase that came to an end at the intersection of Schweitz Road and Deysher Road, Rockland Township. Berks County. The sport utility vehicle flipped onto its side and McDonald allegedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. A Pennsylvania State Police helicopter, numerous troopers and a West Reading Police Department K9 unit responded to the area for a search and a felony issue was issued, according to police.
