The Lehigh County Board of Commissioners now have an idea of potential design plans and upgrades to Cedarbrook Nursing Home.

The board at its March 22 meeting were presented drafts for six options by the architectural firm Roth Marz Partnership, PC.

According to Rick Molchany, county director of general services, the study covers construction and the costs for building a variety of choices for Cedarbrook.

Options presented include $8.5 million in upgrades to infrastructure, excluding rooms; $26.3 million in upgrading infrastructure and updating three wings, with the expectation of placing no more than two patients to a room, adding half bathrooms and the removal of 113 beds; $54 million adding a two-story wing and new lobby; $67.9 million in a new four-story wing; $122.8 million in the construction of a three-floor nursing home on a 20-acre site; and $107.3 million to build an eight-floor addition to the South Whitehall facility, with the closure of the Fountain Hill location.

“If you have a choice that you are preferring, then I can zero in on that much quicker and maybe cut time out of the operations plan and get you options quicker,” Molchany told the board.

The board at the meeting took no action on the draft plans presented.

In other business during the meeting, the board approved the appointments of Jeffrey J. Morgan and Linda Rosenfield to the Lehigh County Authority, with terms expiring Dec. 31, 2021; John Zayaitz to the Lehigh County Industrial Development Authority, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2021; and Owen O’Neill to the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2021.
