Lehigh Carbon Community College’s Diversity Committee and Multicultural Males of LCCC will host speaker Justin Brown, founder of the Diversity Awareness Program (D.A.P.), 2 p.m. April 6, Room 107, Rothrock Library, Alumni Center, main campus, Schnecksville, North Whitehall Township.
D.A.P. was designed to bring a variety of different races, people and backgrounds together. The program offers siversity training as well as the development programs that stimulate the mind as well as the soul.
The purpose of D.A.P. is to promote diversity and cultural awareness in all aspects of life to the students, faculty and staff through active discussions on social issues and ideas.
Students will explore challenges that surface amidst interactions between people of different backgrounds, world view, environmental opportunities, and how social contexts exacerbate or diminish those challenges. They will engage in experiential learning in the domains of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, physical ability, sexual orientation, language, age and social class towards an analysis of equity.
Brown is a speaker and diversity instructor in higher education. He is a resident director at West Chester University.
His passion for working with students developed while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in public relations at Slippery Rock University, where he created the Diversity Awareness Program. He then continued nurturing D.A.P through his graduate studies at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, while working on receiving a master’s degree in student affairs in higher education.
The event is free and open to the public. Information: Andrew Johnson, ajohnson23@lccc.edu; 610-799-1155.
