STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. In what grade are you?
A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. If I had to choose a favorite subject, it would undoubtedly be social studies. I have taken all five of the AP social studies classes Emmaus currently offers and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. Social studies draws on a vast array of topics such as history, government, and psychology to help give us as individuals a better understanding of the world we live in and how it came to be. Learning these ideas excites me and enables me to more informedly interact with society.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. Some awards I have received include National Merit Scholar Finalist, AP Scholar with Honor, President’s National Volunteer Service Award, numerous National History Day awards, Poetry Out Loud school winner and District 7430 Rotary Speech Contest 2nd place winner. Other recognitions include being inducted into National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, getting chosen as our school’s Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar ambassador in my sophomore year and being on Principal’s Honor Roll since freshman year.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A. The main activity I partake in is performance, whether that be in school or community plays and musicals or as a member of Emmaus’ Chorale, Select Choir and Boys Concert Choir. I am president of the National History Day Club, President of Poetry Out Loud Club, Vice President of the Young Politician’s Club and Historian of the EHS Drama Department. I also take private vocal lessons and work a part-time job at Giant.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. In December, I was accepted early decision into my top choice school, Columbia University in the City of New York (Go Lions!). I plan to double major there in political science and theatre arts.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. I would say my biggest challenge to date has been trying to maintain a balance between time to take care of myself and be social, time to manage all of my extracurriculars and time to finish schoolwork. Being involved in activities is fun, but it’s incredibly time-consuming.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I, of course, hope to be remembered for being an incredibly dedicated student, performer, leader, club member, etc. However, what is more important to me is being remembered for the impact I have had on the people around me. I want people to remember me as a kind and caring individual who consistently strived to be there for anyone who needed me.
Q. Who is in your family?
A. My mother, Stacey, and my two dogs, Pee-Wee and Mia.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. One person I admire greatly is my best friend, Kelly. She consistently goes above and beyond to encourage the people around her and is one of the most selfless people I know. She is an incredible performer and person with a big voice but an even bigger heart.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Make time for yourself and don’t sacrifice your well-being for your schoolwork. This time doesn’t have to be time doing nothing; it can be time spent in an extracurricular you love or pursuing a goal you are passionate about, but make sure it is something that brings you joy rather than stress without any gain.
