State Police Troop M Fogelsville say Julio Santiago, 34, of Allentown, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire 9:54 p.m. March 1 when the car struck a concrete center barrier on I-78, Upper Macungie Township.
According to police, Santiago was westbound on Route 22 approaching I-78, when he apparently lost control of the car which began to rotate counterclockwise across the two lanes of I-78.
The front passenger corner of the car struck the concrete center barrier of I-78 at approximately mile marker 51.6, then came to an uncontrolled final rest partially on the left shoulder and partially in the left lane facing west.
Santiago and his passengers Jennitza M. Santiago, 21, and Corey M. Laracuente, 22, both of Allentown, all sustained injuries and were transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
Police allege Julio Santiago’s seat belt was used improperly.
Both passengers were wearing seat belts.
Julio Santiago was charged with driving his vehicle at an unsafe speed, police say.
