SALISBURY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

The community garden at Franko Farm Park will be renamed the Charles J. Durner Jr. Memorial Community Garden.

The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners voted unanimously 5-0 to approve the renaming at the March 23 township meeting.

Board of Commissioners Vice President Robert Martucci Jr. made the motion, seconded by President James. A Brown, to bring the resolution to a vote.

The time and date of the dedication ceremony for the renaming of the garden is to be announced.

Durner, Salisbury Township animal control officer, recycling centers coordinator, farmhouse caretaker and retired township police chief, died Jan. 20. He was 85. He and his widow, Valentine, would have observed their 20th wedding anniversary July 11.

Township commissioners voted Feb. 23 to extend the Franko farmhouse lease for Durner’s widow until Nov. 30.

The William H. Laubach Memorial Park and Franko Farm Recreation Area Master Site Development Plan recommends the Franko Park farmhouse be renovated and expanded to become a township community center.
