EMMAUS BOROUGH COUNCIL

The sale of the 18.4 acre, vacant tract of land, known as 4052 S. Second St., Emmaus, was briefly discussed at the March 20 Emmaus Borough Council meeting. Borough Manager Shane Pepe said “as they expected” the borough did not receive a bid on the property, but did have two interested parties that would rather negotiate on the property directly.

By law, the property has to be put out for bid twice. “We’ve done that, so we’re now at the point we can now move forward with selling this piece of property directly,” Pepe said. It was decided to move the issue to the General Administration committee for a full discussion before coming to council with a more detailed plan.

In other business, council voted 7-0 to approve paying for the $334 licensing fee for the Environment Advisory Committee’s Earth Day clean up.

“This year they have a bill coming, and I know for the e-recycling and the paper shredding and all of the items that they take on Earth Day, there’s a lot of Emmaus residents who take advantage of that,” Councilman Jeff Shubzda said.

Shubzda said the committee has a new trash hauler this year that requires a fee. The previous years, the hauler donated their services.

Ordinance 1154 passed which will remove the residential handicapped parking sign in front of 556 Ridge Street.

J. P. Raynock was reappointed to the planning commission with a term expiring April 1, 2021.

William Lahouchak was appointed to the Board of Health with an open term expiring Jan. 1, 2020.

Emmaus Borough Council will next meet 7 p.m. April 3 at Emmaus Borough Hall, 28 S. 4th St., Emmaus.
