Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School students Amr Asran, a senior at Liberty High School, and Matthew Snyder, a senior at Northampton Area High School) earned first-place trophies after taking top honors in Greater Lehigh Valley Automotive Dealers Association Automotive Technology competition. The duo competed against students from four other local schools and won full-ride scholarships to Universal Technical Institute and 50-percent scholarships to Northampton Community College. Asran and Snyder will be representing BAVTS and GLVADA at the National Automotive Dealers Association competition in New York City April 18 and 19.
Snyder and Dominick Peteto, a senior at Saucon Valley High School, placed first in Northampton Community College’s Automotive Technology Competition, held March 17. They won tools and $4,000 scholarships to NCC. BAVTS will also be receiving a new Chevy truck to use as a training vehicle with the students. To enter this competition, the students had to take a written test and competed against students from 12 other schools. The top six schools advanced to the hands-on part of the competition, which consisted of six diagnostic- and repair-type workstations. Snyder and Peteto had the third-highest written test score and came out on top after the hands-on portion of the competition.
