“Anything Goes” sails onto the stage at 7 p.m. March 30, 31, April 1 and 2 p.m. April 2 in the auditorium of Northampton Area High School, 1619 Laubach Avenue, Northampton.
The musical comedy, written by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, and later revised by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, debuted on Broadway in 1934.
The show, set aboard an ocean liner, is about the misadventures of stowaway Billy Crocker, who falls in love with American debutante Hope Harcourt. Crocker is aided by gangster Moonface Martin and nightclub singer Reno Sweeney in his pursuit of the heiress, who is engaged to stuffy Englishman Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.
Gianna Beleno is director, music director and choreographer of the Northampton Area High School production. She is assisted by technical director Cassandra Saulski, set designer Damon Gelb, set builder-advisor Adam Burke and pit orchestra director Angela Mitchell.
“Anything Goes,” “You’re the Top” and “I Get a Kick Out of You” are among the featured songs. The 1987 Broadway revival received 10 Tony Award nominations, receiving three. The 2011 Broadway revival received three Tonys of nine nominations.
